Leicester/Leicestershireboasts a wealth of sporting heroes, clubs and events, The Leicester Marathon onSunday 10th October 2010 will hope to deliver on all three.
TheLeicester City Marathon is very much in its infancy compared to some of the greatCity marathon's that are celebrating 3 decades of racing, attractingcelebrities from around the globe and that raise millions for good causes; butthe organisers of this year's Leicester Marathon are aiming equally as highwith a re brand.
The new-lookLeicester Marathon hopes to attract thousands of first time fun runners andelite athletes to help swell the streets of Leicester in October.
ChristianWeikert-Picker, race director, said we have established a fast course forrunners, it has taken time, patience and hours of negotiations to get to wherewe are today, but the feedback from runners and the positive reviews are worthall the effort.
Three year'son from when we re introduced the city centre marathon and the numbers continueto grow, the energy is building year on year, the focus to the 2012 Olympics ishelping and assisting us in our vision to make Leicester one of the great citymarathons and the Leicester communities have played a vital role to thissuccess, the many fabulous volunteers from all walks of life, volunteer theirtime to assist in the planning and organising of the day, I am so appreciativeto them all.
With thelaunch of new-look, we are focusing on the charity side of things and puttingthe Fun back into Fundraising. The official supported local charities this yearare LOROS Hospice and Matt Hampson Trust, this partnership is hoped that therunning community, celebrities and local authorities will truly get behind theevent in support of these very worthy charities to help raise much needed fundsand help keep our expenditure low.
