Walk4Matt

Congratulations to all those day and week walkers that took part in the 2012 Walk4Matt.

A big THANK YOU is not enough for those who endured the cold of the first weekend and then the tropical heat for the rest of the week, and lets not mention the blisters.

We've had great support this year. On the Saturday we had over 250 walkers taking part, including week and day walkers. The day finished at The Heart of England where a great night was had by all. The longest day (in miles) was the Sunday and fortunately for the walkers it stayed cool, at the end we met up with Tim and Zach who were half way through their Cycle4Matt, well done boys.

The rest of the week we were blessed with glorious sunshine and apart from the said blisters and one dislocated shoulder, the week walkers had a great time. The walk finally ended Friday afternoon pitchside at Twickenham where Brett Deacon and Jim Hamilton had joined the final leg, we had a group shot before ending proceedings with a party at the Barmy Arms.

With all the potential water problems on the canal before the walk, everything ran to plan, getting through all the locks with restrictions, on time, the only awkward mooring was at the Tring summit, where the canal is at it's lowest. Our narrow boats suffered a few minor failures this year but Willow Wren were superb in their support and soon got the boats chugging along again.

We must say a massive THANK YOU to all the pubs and hotels along the way, without their support our evenings wouldn't be the same, also, a special mention to Paul Nixon, Phil DeFreitas, Charlie Dagnall and the other sporting celebrities that came and supported our T20 cricket match at Tring. Although the Matt Hampson Foundation team lost this year, the evening was very entertaining.

Please stay in touch as we have big plans for next year's event.

To register your interest for Walk4Matt 2013 contact jane@hambo.co.uk, this can be day walking, week walking, crewing and skippering. We may look into a camping option for next year too, so if this is of interest, your feedback would be appreciated.
